Course aims and objectives:
To explore how children and young people can be meaningfully
and ethically involved in research and consultation, at an advanced
level.
By the end of the course, participants should:
• Be at the forefront of knowledge of ethical requirements
and questions in involving children and young people in research
and/or consultation
• Be able to evaluate critically, and in detail, a range
of different ways of involving children and young people in
research and/or consultation, from peer research to steering
group membership
• Be able to apply a range of different methods of undertaking
research and/or consultation with children and young people
• Be able to consider the ramifications of the above
in designing research, from inception to dissemination.
Teaching:
The course will be offered as ‘blended learning’
with 2 days, face to face, and an active social network website
for communication before and after the 2 days.
The course is highly participative and aims to draw on participants’
experience.
Extensive online resources are available to all participants.
These resources will be available for 9 months after completing
the course.
Course delivery:
The course is convened by Professor Kay Tisdall and Dr Susan
Elsley who have extensive experience in delivering education
and training on research and consultation with children and
young people. There will be case study presentations from
expert speakers with a focus on involving children and young
people in research.
Course description: This is a NEW course for 2011. This course
was developed so it can be taken as a stand alone course or
along with the other CPD courses, ‘Using Digital Media
in Research with Children and Young People’ (accredited)
and ‘Using Creative Methods in Research with Children
and Young People’ (accreditation being sought for 2011).
This course replaces a previous successful course ‘Listening
to Children’.
Who is the course for:
This course is for those working with children and young people
who want to develop their research and consultation skills.
It is also appropriate for anyone who is moving into this
field. There are no formal entry requirements. |
