People > Course teamSusan is an independent consultant in children and young people’s rights, policy and research. She has wide experience in management, research, policy and practitioner roles in children’s organisations and in the wider voluntary sector. Susan has a PhD in Sociology, teaches on the MSc in Childhood Studies in the Department of Social Policy and is an Honorary Fellow of the School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh. Susan has research interests across children and childhood with a particular focus on children’s rights and participation, looked after children and young people, play, child poverty and children’s books and culture. Susan is interested in inter-disciplinary approaches to children and childhood in policy, research and service delivery. Louise Hill has extensive experience and enthusiasm for conducting research with and for children and young people. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Edinburgh entitled: Secrets and trust: A story of listening to and learning from children and young people affected by parental alcohol problems. She has a particular interest in researching sensitive topic areas and developing participatory research methods. Louise has a strong commitment to connecting research, policy and practice with a background in working as a researcher for Barnardo's and as a children's rights practitioner with looked after children. Listening to Children is currently offered as part of the Continuing Professional Development programme run by CRFR, where it is managed by Kathryn Dunne Listening to Children: Research and Consultation
