Concepts of Epidemiology is an intensive 5-day course which covers the fundamental principle of epidemiology, giving participants a vital understanding of this widely-used research and practice, with reference to global health problems.
The course is particularly beneficial for any health care professionals with limited or no experience in epidemiological study and who wish to develop enough knowledge to apply this practice in their own work. Previous attendees have been nurses, doctors, health promoters, health policy-makers, health researchers and statisticians, and many more fields.
No previous knowledge of epidemiology is necessary. Basic arithmetic, algebra and the use of a calculator will be needed to carry out the course exercises.
The course programme is supported by the content of the book ‘Concepts of Epidemiology’ by Professor Bhopal. The programme aims to bring participants to the introductory level of the MSc in Public Health, and covers most of the material in the text.
Each day combines lectures and visual presentations on various topics followed by individual learning sessions and small group exercises. Each session concentrates on an individual chapter of the book which include:
Professor Raj Phopal CBE, DSc(Hon), MPH, MD
