Article - Women's violence to men in intimate relationships

Event description

The United Nations defines gender based violence as “violence that
is directed against a woman because she is a woman, or violence
that affects women disproportionately” and that it is “rooted in
women’s subordination”.

Recent debate has challenged the gendered analysis of domestic abuse.
As researchers we require an understanding of the historical context
and theories that guide this work and to consider how we can effectively
contribute to the evidence base.

The Scottish GBV Research Network hosted a half day event to provide
an opportunity for researchers to revisit these issues and to reflect on their
own work. Dr Marsha Scott and Professor Lynn Jamieson gave presentations on the theoretical framework and on reviewing evidence
to stimulate group discussion on how we can effectively contribute to the evidence base and anticipate criticism of our work.
